AAH Kenya is a country programme of Action Africa Help International (AAH-I), an African-led nongovernmental organisation that supports livelihood-challenged communities in East and Southern Africa to sustainably improve their well-being and standard of living. With Country Programmes in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Zambia and recently in Djibouti, AAH-I has over 25 years’ experience working with communities in conflict and post-conflict situations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. More recently AAH-I has expanded its activities to work with other marginalised communities, including pastoralists and people living in informal urban settlements.

Action Africa Help International in Kakuma is looking for well-organized and highly motivated individuals to be considered for the Agriculture Officer position.

Purpose of the job

The major function of the agriculture officer is to work with the project staff and partners to support participating communities (individuals, groups or cooperatives) challenged by different vulnerabilities so that they can understand and address their problems for their betterment through sustainable agriculture practices. It is the duty of the agricultural officer to inspire the individuals or groups so that they can make positive changes in their lives by undertaking sustainable organic agriculture enterprises. The agriculture officer will assess the requirements of the staff/partner families or groups participating in the water for livelihoods program activities and design appropriate capacity building plan to address such needs. The agriculture officer will work with other staff to design and implement activities which favourably address the sustainable agriculture and development needs of project’s participants, their families and communities there by building their resilience in food security

Required skills and experience

 Bachelor’s degree in BSc Agriculture, with specialty in agronomy

 BA Community Development with experience in climate smart agriculture and sustainable agriculture, Water resource management, Soil science and any other related field.

 At least 3 years’ experience in the field of community development, livelihoods and resilience.

 Experience of project management and proposal writing

 Experience in research into development design and participatory approaches.

 Good reporting and writing skills.

 Entrepreneurship and apprenticeship skills

 Experience in disability inclusion and governance for livelihoods with people with disability

 Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.

 Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili language and local dialect of the community targeted.
