Research Technician I | ReliefWeb

The Research Technician 1 will assist in managing the field activities in Nyandarua and ILRI research plot.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify the target project beneficiaries in the county
  • Participate in identification, designing, monitoring and evaluation of potato innovation sites;
  • Follow up through in-field visits and technical backstopping to ensure quality trainings for potato farmers is carried out by the TOTs;
  • Coordinate and participate in the organization and publicity of potato field days, cooking demonstration and shows;
  • Promote and create awareness on potato technologies;
  • Facilitate linkages between seed merchants and trained farmer’s/farmer’s groups to ensure timely procurement and delivery of certified seed;
  • Facilitate linkages between markets and trained farmer’s/farmer groups to ensure organized marketing of potatoes;
  • Coordinate and support evaluation meetings, field visits and data collection;
  • Prepare regular technical reports covering all the project activities in the county;
  • Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Selection Criteria

  • The candidate should have a minimum of a diploma in agriculture;
  • At least one year of experience required in similar position;
  • Able to write technical reports, prepare tables and interpret the results;
  • Basic knowledge of database work;
  • Intermediate level of MS Office;
  • Able to ride motorbike;
  • A valid driving license;
  • Fluent in Kiswahili.

What are the conditions?

The position is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position limited to Kenya nationals and permanent residents only. The employment contract will be for a one-year term (with a 3-month probation period).
