Position: Senior Policy Advisor

Job description

The Senior policy advisor will be responsible for leading FSD Kenya’s work in facilitating the creation of the policy and regulatory framework needed to drive and sustain value-adding finance in Kenya. This role will require extensive engagement with the Government of Kenya on policy and regulation across the relevant ministries, regulators and other stakeholders to provide strategic and practical guidance that can lead to inclusive finance that contributes to poverty reduction and inclusive growth.


Monitoring, measurement and reporting:

  • Work with the team to define objectives, outputs, and measures
  • Support the collection, monitoring and reporting of partner data and intervention progress
  • Update progress and raise any potential risks for strategic deliberations

Resource management:

  • Responsible for effective management of financial and human resources to manage project objectives
  • Ensure intervention teams execute on approved tasks of the intervention once they are approved
  • Liaise with project managers to ensure that the required resourcing is feasible within current project plans, commitments and resource envelopes

Partnership management:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with government officials
  • Develop effective relationships with financial service providers
  • Network with real economy actors intersecting with the financial sector
  • Provision of policy options, particularly from pro-poor perspectives, on macroeconomic and development issues to governments and other development actors
  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice through identification of best practices and lessons learned


  • Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, finance, economics, business or other relevant field
  • 10 years’ experience in the public policy, legal and/or financial sector
  • Passion for inclusive finance for poverty reduction and inclusive growth
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in policy and regulation
  • Collaborative thinker who works well in teams but is also an independent self-starter
  • Great interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced degree in law, political science, business or other relevant field
  • Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and commitment to excellence

  • Relevant policy and regulation experience – 50%
